Identify the requirement, not just a product name
State the intended industrial use and the material category requested. Ask the receiving technical team to identify mandatory limits and any approval procedure for a new source. Do not assume that a previous purchase description covers a different plant or application.
The specification should distinguish the desired product from the evidence used to assess it. Typical producer information can support an initial discussion; shipment-related documents and contractual limits must be identified for the actual order.
Keep units, bases and limits visible
For each parameter, record the unit, reporting basis, method where required and whether the limit is minimum, maximum or a range. Gross and net calorific value should be identified separately. State how moisture is treated in the results being compared.
The review may include sulphur, ash, volatile matter, HGI, particle size and specifically required trace elements. The SGS reference identifies such testing areas. Nexus does not publish one set of values as a universal specification: the acceptable limits must come from the receiving buyer's requirement.
Separate quality from quantity
The cargo weight and the technical analysis answer different questions. State the proposed method for determining quantity and separately define the required sample and quality documentation. A loaded-weight record is not a substitute for fuel-property results.
If an independent service is requested, agree its scope, location and timing. Clarify which tests are to be performed and how the report relates to the consignment. Avoid leaving these points until after cargo preparation.
Move from specification to quotation
Send the technical brief with the quantity, destination port, shipment window and preferred delivery basis. Identify any origin restriction and whether alternatives require prior approval. The resulting discussion can then separate producer confirmation, technical acceptance and freight arrangements.
